Mark B. chose clarity — and built Zaxee so nobody has to choose between who they are and who they date.
About Mark
Mark B. is the founder of Zaxee and a passionate advocate for sober living. After spending years trying to navigate a dating world built almost entirely around bars, happy hours, and liquid courage, he realised the problem wasn't him — it was the infrastructure. So he built something better. Zaxee was born from his belief that real attraction doesn't need alcohol to function, and that people who've chosen clarity deserve a place where that choice is celebrated, not explained.
The story behind Zaxee
Mark didn't set out to build a dating app. He set out to solve a problem he knew personally: the exhausting experience of dating sober in a world that assumes everyone drinks.
After choosing a sober lifestyle in his late thirties, Mark found himself on the sidelines of a dating culture saturated with cocktail bars and wine-fuelled first dates. He wasn't looking for a recovery community — he was living well, happy in his choices, and simply trying to meet someone who got it. That person was harder to find than it should have been.
He spent three years talking to sober singles across the US and UK before writing a line of code. What he heard was consistent: people weren't ashamed of their sobriety — they were tired of explaining it. They wanted connection without the preamble. They wanted to be seen first, sober second.
Zaxee launched as his answer to that gap. A dating platform where clarity is the baseline, not a conversation you have on the third date. Where "sober and sexy" isn't a contradiction — it's the whole point. Today, with over 440,000 rated members and growing, Mark is more convinced than ever that the best connections happen when people show up fully as themselves.
He lives in New York, still goes on dates, and still believes the right person is worth finding with a clear head.
"I built Zaxee because I was tired of pretending the bar was a neutral venue. It isn't. When you've chosen not to drink, every first date in a cocktail lounge is a small act of code-switching — performing a version of yourself that fits the setting. Zaxee removes that entirely. You show up as you are, and so does the person across from you. That's not a niche — that's just better dating."
